Can the Florida courts include my new spouse's income when setting child support?
Generally, in Florida, the new spouse's income is irrelevant for child support purposes. A new spouse's income has no impact in the child support obligation for the prior family. However, in certain limited circumstances, the court may consider the new spouse's income if, in the new relationship, the spouses are diverting income that should be paid to the parent in an effort to reduce that parent's child support obligation to his or her prior family.
