Can a spouse bankrupt his spousal support obligations in Florida?
Generally, spousal support or alimony is not dischargeable in Florida. Sometimes if an equitable distribution award is couched in terms of alimony, for example, a lump sum alimony award which is really the recipient's spouse share of the house, there may be an argument to be made for discharging that amount. However, generally speaking, alimony awards or spousal support are not dischargeable in bankruptcy.
