Who gets alimony in Florida and why?

In Florida, alimony is determined by need and ability to pay. The spouse with the need receives the alimony. The spouse with the ability pays the alimony. Florida does not make a distinction between the genders, so it is possible if the male partner does not have sufficient income to meet his needs that he would receive income from the female partner.
